Privacy policy

Murmur is a chat with end-to-end encryption. This policy explains which data exists, where it lives and for how long.
What the server stores
- Your nickname and the date the account was created.
- A proof derived from your password (never the password itself) and your private key in encrypted form, which only your password opens.
- Your public key, so other people can encrypt messages for you.
- Encrypted messages only until they are delivered, for at most 30 days. Once delivered, they are deleted.
- The groups and channels you belong to, and who talks to whom and when (metadata needed to deliver messages).
- For account security: the device name and IP address of each session.
What stays on your device
Your conversation history lives only in your browser, in the extension’s storage. Signing out erases it.
What we do not do
We do not read your messages (we cannot), we do not sell data, we use no advertising trackers and we share nothing with third parties unless the law requires it.
Banners
The window may show banners set by the server administrator. We count only total impressions and clicks, never linked to a person.
Support center
When you write to support we keep the message and, if you give them, your name, email and nickname, only to reply.
Your controls
In the extension settings you can sign out devices, stop strangers from messaging you, leave nickname search and delete your account at any time. Deleting removes your data from the server, including anything still waiting for delivery.
